The Australian/New Zealand Rules AS/NZS3000 state a minimum clearance for halogen recessed downlights of 200mm between the downlight and any substance, unless the it has a fire resistant enclosure.

The safety heat hood contains the heat by the halogen dichroic lamp. The heat hood provides safe protection from all types of insulation in your roof cavity.
