Downlights are popular for many good reasons, but we inherit costly consequences if they are EXPOSED in our ceilings. Under new laws,  every new installation of downlights must be accompanied by a downlight heat guard.

The reason you need a downlight heat guard with 240 volt fluorescent downlights is incase you  replace this energy saving lamp for a normal halogen GU10 lamp, therefore creating more heat.

Some 12v Downlight Kits may specifically come already with guards.  If not you can always buy them seperately.
